Sixth Day of Christmas

Today was a pretty laid back day. I had a leisurely breakfast while watching a Christmas movie on VOD.

And then for the rest of the afternoon read, switching between More than a Wise Woman, which I started yesterday, and The Secret Pilgrim by John le Carre. I always read a le Carre novel around this time of year – since my dad and I shared a love of this author’s books, it’s a little ritual that makes me feel close to him and miss him less (if that’s possible).

I was thinking about making dinner when the phone rang. It was LK, my best friend from Winnipeg wishing me “Happy New Year” and just having a longer chat than we both could manage when she called on Christmas Day.

We may be 1,500 miles apart, but speaking with her inspired me to get outside and breath fresh air (not just stick my head out the balcony door). I walked down Burrard Street as far as St. Paul’s Hospital and took in their Lights of Hope fundraiser display. (And yes, I forgot my camera again.)
