The world is frozen.
Cars exhale their breath
in swirling mists of white.
Where you once walked,
ice coats the street.

Like suddenly seeing
my face in a store window
and recognizing it as yours,

I discover
there are no more
familiar landmarks.

In this new world,
the one where you no longer are,

not even X
marks the spot.
